The Twilight Lexicon just posted news from Summit Entertainment that Rachelle Lefevre is being replaced in Eclipse by Bryce Dallas Howard due to scheduling conflicts.

Actress Rachelle Lefevre Will Be Replaced By Howard In The Role Of Victoria
Los Angeles – July 28, 2009 – Summit Entertainment announced today that Bryce Dallas Howard will take over the role of “Victoria” in the studio’s upcoming production of THE TWILIGHT SAGA: ECLIPSE. Actress, Rachelle Lefevre, who portrayed the character in TWILIGHT as well as the upcoming release of THE TWILIGHT SAGA: NEW MOON, will not continue in the role due to scheduling conflicts with another commitment the actor has made. THE TWILIGHT SAGA: ECLIPSE will start filming in Vancouver this coming August.
THE TWILIGHT SAGA: ECLIPSE, the third film in the studio’s TWILIGHT film franchise based on Stephenie Meyer’s blockbuster book series, will be directed by David Slade from a screenplay written by Melissa Rosenberg. The film will be released theatrically in North America on Wednesday, June 30, 2010.
“We are incredibly happy that Bryce has agreed to come into the franchise,” said Erik Feig, Summit’s President of Worldwide Production and Acquisitions. “Rachelle brought “Victoria” to great screen life and Bryce will bring a new dimension to the character. The franchise is lucky to have such a talented actress as Bryce coming in to fill the role.”
Howard most recently starred in TERMINATOR SALVATION as Kate Connor and has been seen in SPIDER-MAN 3, LADY IN THE WATER, and THE VILLAGE. She was nominated for a Golden Globe for her leading performance as an actress in the HBO film AS YOU LIKE IT.
In THE TWILIGHT SAGA: ECLIPSE, Bella once again finds herself surrounded by danger as Seattle is ravaged by a string of mysterious killings and a malicious vampire continues her quest for revenge. In the midst of it all, she is forced to choose between her love for Edward and her friendship with Jacob — knowing that her decision has the potential to ignite the ageless struggle between vampire and werewolf. With her graduation quickly approaching, Bella is confronted with the most important decision of her life.

I cant believe they’re doing this Rachelle is perfect 2 be Victoria.How can they do this?And hasnt she been all hyped up about Eclipse. The books are amazing and deserve a chance and maybe the other actress wont be that bad. I can’t believe this. I’m not going to watch eclipse, sorry. They’ve now officially messed up a whole movie-serie. You know after reading some of these comments, made me realize that some of you in here are just bandwagon phonies, so you won’t watch Eclipse because someone got replaced? what about the story and the rest of the cast? isn’t Stephenie’s story more important?

Not sure if I like this but we have to respect Rachelle’s other ventures, unfortunately. She has done an amazing job bringing Victoria to life but we have to give the other actress a chance also. We should just be glad Eclipse is being made.

I’m happy because I found out that my Middel School 1st dance is going to be Twilight and NewMoon themed. Well, guys, this is really too bad. Rachelle was an amazing Victoria, and it’s going to be strange to not see her back, reprising her role in her defining movie, but who knows? Bryce Howard may add new levels to the character that haven’t been explored yet. We’ll all miss Rachelle, sure, but think of this as an expanse from what’s already known. We all know that Rachelle plays the character beautifully, and she’ll take the big-screen by storm in New Moon, but maybe Bryce is just as good, if not better. I feel that this turn of events is strange because we all know that Rachelle was so pumped about the series. I cannot imagine she does not want to be involved in a franchise that is so huge and will likely make anyone starring in it if not rich then very well known. Rachelle wanted this and now there is a scheduling conflict. I think it is reasonable to think that is “off” to say the least.

this is sad, but what matters the most is the story line, if the new victoria is able to portray victoria’s character well then that’s great.

I can’t believe how all of you are just going to drop the movie if the “real” Victoria isn’t there….I’ve seen tons of movies where they replaced a character and the movie was still as great as the others. You need to just get over it and watch the movie for the other characters, especially if you are actually “True” Twilight fans.
you all need to get over it. it’s not like they are replacing rob or kristen. now that would be something to fuss about. victoria has a large role in this 3rd book but she wont be the main character. the movie will still be great!
