Robert Interview

CanMag has an interview with Robert Pattinson he talks about the Twilight Films. Robert reveals New Moon is his favorite book.

Read the entire interview here.

Here is an excerpt from the interview:

But, and not just for PR purposes, New Moon was his favorite book. “Mainly because I like the juxtaposition. Edward is such a hyped character, and there are so many people looking at him like a romantic hero. In New Moon, the way that I read it anyway, he’s just so humbled. It’s a character who’s looking at Bella and thinking that he loves something too much, but he can’t be around. He deliberately starts breaking up their relationship, which I think is a very relatable thing that is very painful. And, in the fight sequence at the end, Bella ends up saving Edward, as she does in every single one of the books. It’s really funny how everyone looks at Edward as the hero, and he’s continuously saved by the damsel in distress. I think he really realizes that in New Moon. Eclipse is really him trying to catch up with Jacob because he’s so out of the loop and he can’t speak in superlatives anymore. He’s accepted being alive and he needs to catch up to Jacob.”

i do not agree with Mr. Pattinson. Maybe this is because i read all four books back-to-back and in so doing the full and entire story is revealed as well as the character’s character, if you will. this is just my personal opinion, of course.

jacob is an immature, selfish, self-centered manipulator. whatever ‘feelings’ he has for bella are totally for his own end. the adage ‘the means justify the end’ is what jacob is about. she is an object to be taken away from his advisary and his manipulation is made easier due to bella’s own immaturity and lack of self-worth. bella, for herself, what she herself feels and wants for herself is of no concern are not the issue for jacob. he feels surperior to edward (the vampire) because of his so called superior lineage (shape-shifter.)

the only thing edward has to ‘catch up with’ is lost time.

he and his family are not selfish and self-centered to the point of total manipulation. he genuinely loves bella and discovers that not only are there outside forces that put her in danger because of who/what he is, now his own family members pose a threat. so, he makes the ultimate sacrifice by leaving and by doing so, he thinks she will not be in danger from himself or anyone else of his kind.

at the end of new moon, he understands that his having left did not make things better for her but only worse.

i would be curious to know why mr pattinson thinks that the character (internal) of jacob has more redeeming qualities than edward?

new moon seems to have more special effects and i hope the real story-ine is not left out. it would be a shame to lose the real story to special effects. also, there have been no trailers focusing on the main theme of new moon…bella’s love for edward (while he is gone and after rescuing him) and to the point of putting her own life in danger to save his vs. so much focus on jacob who is, for the total storyline and main theme of the books, is a periferey character.

ummmmm emma dyer you have way to much time on your hands if your going to write that much then no-one is going to read it. i just wanted to say that i think rob looks better when he is playing edward and in this photo he looks like he just woke up walked out the door (with out brushing his hair) and was still in a bad mood when they took the photo. but seriously emma, get a hobby or something….

  13. Lara says:

@Emma – Go ahead and write what you want – everyone else does.

I have said before that Jacob really gets on my nerves. jacob is very imature, but then Stephenie Meyer basically said that in her interview ( I have the Blu-ray with the extra DVD). She said Jacob is just an average 16 yr old boy. That says everything right there.

I am not sure that Jacob thinks he is superior to Edward because of his lineage.I think that it is that he is 16 and he is full of himself.
