The New moon book cover poster is available from AllPosters. The 22″ by 34″ poster features the original cover art that we all know so well. Although this poster is quite simple compared to other Twilight posters out there, it’s very nice for fans of the books. Check it out here.

This is by far the prettiest of the four covers! I just wish I knew what the symbolism is. Is the flower supposed to represent Bella crying? The flower is pointing downward as if its sad and the petal falling is like a teardrop.

I didn’t really understand the Eclipse cover until I read the closing scene with Bella telling Jacob while he’s bed-ridden, that she loves him and can see their life together and that she wants it badly, but it will just never be. That’s what the cover felt like to me. This pretty red(love) ribbon blowing and twirling, and yet being ripped slowly apart. That’s exactly what I felt like when I read the ending of Eclipse. The connection between the cover and how the book made me feel was surreal!

However, when I read New Moon, I never experienced a connection with the cover as I did with Eclipse, or Twilight for that matter. (I haven’t read Breaking Dawn yet, but I read Stephenie’s FAQs about what it means). I wonder what the cover for Midnight Sun would have been…

Stephenie Meyer said she had no input on the cover for New Moon and she doesn’t know what it means either. But she did decide on the cover for Twilight. She said the apple represents “Choice”, in reference to the Adam & Eve story. The choice between living and dying; Bella’s choice between living as a human or taking a bite of the forbidden fruit/apple and becoming a vampire.

The New Moon cover I think represents Bella “blossoming” into a flower by becoming more independant and maturing, but is still broken-hearted over Edward leaving, hence the petal falling like a teardrop.

On Breaking Dawn cover, Stephenie Meyer said,”Breaking Dawn’s cover is a metaphor for Bella’s progression throughout the entire saga. She began as the weakest (at least physically, when compared to vampires and werewolves) player on the board: the pawn. She ended as the strongest: the queen. In the end, it’s Bella that brings about the win for the Cullens.”

She doesn’t say anything about the Eclipse cover.

  14. Bella4eva says:

I disagree. I think that the flower (which is facing down) shows Bella’s depression, she’s falling apart. The eclipse cover represents Bella’s life being torn apart, between werewolves and vampires, hence the torn ribbon. I’m glad they ,ade a book poster, cause I like the movies, but the books are better. Also, I thought the BD cover, the red pawn represented the Volturi, the “evil” I suppose, and the quenn represented the Cullens, the good guys.

    • shaneee says:

Nope, The red small red pawn represents the human bella. weak and full of blood, a pawn. The queen is her new self. A strong bloodless vampire, that’s why it is so big and white. Humans and vampires

  15. Bella4eva says:

oops, Made, not ade. sorry :P

  16. jess says:

cool want it! but i really want the twilight 1 of think it looks the coolest then the breaking dawn 1!

  17. twilight.nerd says:

Bella4eva, the Breaking Dawn cover stands for Bella, the red pawn is her human life then the queen is her vampire life. She starts out as the weakest and ends up as the strongest.

New Moon meaning as described by STephenie Meyer on her website under FAQ in “Twilight Series” link

What kind of flower is that on the cover, and what does it mean?

That is a ruffled tulip. As for the meaning… If you’ve read the Twilight FAQ, you know that the apple cover had a lot of meaning for me, and I was an active part of the covering process. However, that experience is more the exception than the rule in the publishing world. Something to keep in mind if you intend to embark on a career as a writer: lots of things you might expect to be under your control are not. Covers, for example. Those are mostly up to the publisher and the marketing and sales departments. So I don’t know what the tulip means—I didn’t have anything to do with this one.

sorry I posted twice, my laptop reloaded and I didnt think it posted before ;)

I was recently commissioned to make a Twilight themed cake. Having never read the series (although my daughter has) I thought I’d do some research to get a ‘feel’ for the series. After seeing the covers and reading some of these posts, my opinion on the cover for New Moon is that the flower seems to be transitioning. The color, red is symbolic of blood, the ‘life force’. The tulip, in this case Bella, was once completely red – full of life; but now the color (life)is draining symbolizing her transition of becoming a vampire. The petal is symbolic of a drop of blood and not a tear drop. Why a tulip? According to a Turkish folktale, a red tulip is symbolic of a ‘perfect love’. Just my opinion.
