Born in Portland, Maine, in the US, Anna started acting at the age of six when she became involved in community theatre (her older brother Mike is also an actor). By 12, she had won the role of Dinah Lord, younger sister to the female lead Tracy Lord, in a Broadway production of High Society. She garnered a Tony nomination for her performance, making her the second youngest nominee in the awards’ history. ‘It was amazing to be nominated and pretty similar to how I felt on Oscar night. I have an idea in my head of what a Tony or Oscar nominee is like, and it’s not as if I’ve turned into Penélope Cruz overnight. When I got the Tony nomination I thought: “Wow, they’re letting me play in the cool kids’ club for a few hours.”’

Rathbone also was in the region for the filming of “Airbender,” a movie by Malvern, Chester County, native M. Night Shyamalan that was shot in 2009 primarily in eastern Pennsylvania, including Reading.

Rathbone isn’t exactly a household name but thanks to his meaty roles in “Eclipse,” opening Wednesday, and “The Last Airbender,” opening Thursday, he seems to be fast-tracking his way to box-office glory.

“It’s very exciting,” he says. “When I was a young actor starting out at 19, I could never have imagined this scenario. Being a part of two franchises opening the same weekend is really an amazing feeling.”

It’s official that you’re writing Breaking Dawn and it’s also official that it’s going to be broken down into two parts. How excited are you to be sinking your teeth into closing out the story?

It’s a really tough one. I’ve been working on it now for a little bit, and it was hard to crack. It’s a big story. The mythology is just really dense, very, very detailed, and there are tons of characters. It’s been harder than most… I don’t know. I say that every time. These stories are a little like childbirth. You forget the labor pains once the child’s grown up. Breaking Dawn, I feel like I’ve got a grasp of the story, but it’s a long way from being done. To me, the book lends itself to two movies. There are some natural breaks in there. There’s the before Bella is a vampire and after Bella is a vampire. So it’s doable.
