EW reviews New Moon Soundtrack

EW has a review of the New Moon Soundtrack. They give it an A.

Here is an excerpt:

Moon (due in stores Oct. 20) yields several happy revelations from its lower-marquee names: Nordic songstress Lykke Li’s nearly a cappella ”Possibility” is a lovely little Swedish snowflake, and jokey rockers OK Go achieve an impressive sort of Flaming Lips-y quirk-gravitas on the sprawling, cinematic ”Shooting the Moon.” Black Rebel Motorcycle Club’s acoustic campfire lament ”Done All Wrong” segues seamlessly into the jaunty, Strokes-ian guitar fuzz of Hurricane Bells’ ”Monsters.” Think of New Moon as a sort of survey course in new-now-next rock: a mixtape with teeth. Interviews with New Moon Soundtrack Artists

Vanity Fair has interviews with a number of artists from the New Moon Soundtrack.

Interviews include Alex Brown Church of Sea Wolf, Annie Clark, also known as St. Vincent and Tim Nordwind of OK Go.

Go to Vanity Fair to read all the interviews.

Here is an excerpt from the interview with Tim Nordwind of OK Go:

I think you already answered this, but would OK Go be vampires or werewolves? Are you more Team Edward or Team Jacob?

Vampires have better style—they’re a bit more formal, which I appreciate. Werewolves just bust out of whatever clothes they were wearing as humans. I think three-fourth’s of this band being vampires constitutes us as a vampire house band.

“We wrote ‘Meet Me On the Equinox’ to reflect the celestial themes and motifs that run throughout the Twilight series, and we wanted to capture that desperate feeling of endings and beginnings that so strongly affect the main characters,” said Death Cab for Cutie bassist Nick Harmer. “This song marks the first attempt that Death Cab for Cutie has ever made at contributing new, unreleased material for a film. It just seems a perfect synergy that a band from the Northwest would create a song for a series of novels set in the Northwest. We are not only proud to be a part of the Twilight legacy but also honored to join so many other fantastic artists that have leant their amazing creativity to this soundtrack.”

The Twilight Saga: New Moon Original Motion Picture Soundtrack is set to release on Monday, October 19th. The Twilight Saga: New Moon arrives in theatres on Friday, November 20th in the US and UK.

Interview with Matt Bellamy from Muse

The National Post has an interview with Matt Bellamy from Muse.

You can read the entire interview here.

Here is an excerpt from the interview where he talks about Twilight:

Q: You have a song on the new Twilight film. Are you a fan?
Well, I liked The Lost Boys in the ’80s. I remember that one had a pretty good soundtrack as well. This sort of film struck me as this generations version of The Lost Boys. It was actually Stephenie Meyer who approached the band quite a few years before the film was name, just as she was becoming known. She came to a concert in Phoenix, in Arizona – I think that’s where she lived, or she lived nearby. She was very friendly, and she told us that she liked the music and that she’d like to use the music in the films. It was a few years later that the filmmakers came to us, and we said sure. I had no idea [the first film] was going to be a film as it was, I thought is was going to be an indie film.

Interview with St. Vincent

Pitchfork has an interview with St. Vincent. She and Bon Iver sing Rosyln on the New Moon Soundtrack.

Read the entire interview here.

Here is an excerpt from the interview:

Pitchfork: You’re on the New Moon soundtrack with Bon Iver, doing a song called “Rosyln”. How did that happen?

Annie Clark: Justin [Vernon] and I met at Bonnaroo, and it turns out we were both fans of each other. Afterward, we got to talking about doing some kind of collaboration. He had this song that he’d been kicking around, and he sent it to me. It was beautiful, as you can imagine. I ended up working on it with him, and then it turned out that the Twilight people were interested in the song being on their soundtrack.
