There’s not much ocean in Anonymous. So what was the draw for you?

Xavier Samuel: (Laughs) Yeah, you are right. I do try to find movies that are near or on the ocean. (Laughs) Look, I think this is a pretty controversial story. Its not often that you get to be in an Elizabethan thriller. I have always been fascinated by William Shakespeare. I jumped at the opportunity to be involved in a story like this.

“Next scene, ski patrol!” These were the not-so-encouraging words that exited Twilight director Catherine Hardwick’s mouth as she entered the lift line for her very first run at the Park City Mountain Resort during the recent Sundance film festival. To counter her “not too good” snowboarding abilities, she was coping as best she knew how: By imagining the movie she would direct of the ski-slope adventure she happened to be on at that very moment with this reporter, Hardwicke’s friend Marcus, and Burton pro snowboarder/Martin Starr doppelgänger Mark Sollors. You won an MTV Award for Best Fight for playing Riley. How has being a part of “Twilight” altered the course of your career?
It’s hard to gauge, really. It’s certainly opened a lot of doors that never would have been opened and presented a lot of opportunities. You meet really interesting people that you become friends with, and that’s been the main advantage for me. Also, coming back to Australia, it kind of changed the temperature of the way people perceive me. It’s been very positive.
